How to Take Diamicron
The dosage of Diamicron varies from person to person depending on the extent of their diabetes. The recommended dosage range of Diamicron is between 80 to 320 mg per day. It is advised to star with a low dose and gradually increase dosage till desired sugar control is achieved. If the patient requires more than 160 mg per day, it should be administered as two equal parts taken twice a day. For instance, a dose of 320 mg per day can be taken as 160 mg tablet taken twice daily. A single dose should not exceed 160 mg and the total daily dose should not exceed 320 mg. If the administration of 320 mg Diamicron does not result in sufficient sugar control, it is advised to discontinue the medication. In people with impaired liver and kidney function, hypothyroidism or severe coronary heart disease, the dosage should be modified accordingly. During the course of treatment, patients should be monitored regularly to judge the effectiveness of the medication. This will also help determine the dosage required for maintenance. In some people with type 2 diabetes, the condition can be managed by diet and exercise once blood sugar levels have stabilized with the use of Diamicron. The decision to continue the patient on the medication or switch to another medication will be taken by a doctor. Patients should not alter dosage or discontinue medication by themselves. |
