What are the Symptoms of Diabetes Insipidus? |
There are two categories of symptoms for Diabetes Insipidus. One is universal which normally accompanies almost all cases of DI, while variable symptoms may differ between cases. Universal Symptoms:Universal Symptoms include Dehydration, Extreme Thirst (especially for cold or ice cold water), Increased Fluid intake and eventually leading to Frequent and excessive Urination. In contrast to Patients suffering from Diabetes Mellitus, symptoms of which are very much similar, patients suffering from Diabetes Insipidus would be having much clear urine rather than being concentrated. This is due to the absence of Glucose and other electrolytes (sodium) in the urine. Hence the names “water” Diabetes and “sugar” Diabetes have been given to Diabetes Insipidus and Diabetes Mellitus respectively. Variable Symptoms:Excessive Urination would persists in a Diabetes Insipidus patient throughout the day and night, but this varies from one individual to another, some patients may not require to get up during the night to urinate and some may even suffer from bed wetting.
In Rare Cases, some patients are also known to suffer from fever, vomiting and even diarrhea. |
