What are the risks to the mother?

There are certain risks for the mother when she is diabetic and pregnant. That's why it's important to pay attention to your body when you are going through this and note any changes that happen, even the minor ones.

What are the risks that the mother might actually experience?

- The doctor might feel that she should have a cesarean

- high blood pressure during pregnancy and possible swelling with your feet and hands

- urinary tract infection

- higher chance of diabetes later in life

- premature delivery

- ketones might build up

- at risk for eye disease

- at risk for kidney disease

Depending on what type of Diabetes you have, your diabetes and labor might vary. Diabetes I and Diabetes II don't experience the same thing during pregnancy but a lot of the above could happen in either one.
