What are the risks to the baby?

When the baby gets a lot of sugar or overloaded on it before it's born there are some possible risks that the baby might experience.

Possible risks for the baby:

- the baby's shoulder might be damaged during labor

- the baby might have low blood sugar when born

- the baby will be at a high risk for type 2 diabetes and obesity a few years down the road

- the skin might become yellowish also known as Jaundice two-three days after the baby is born

- possible breathing problems

- high chance with birth defects

The doctor will be watching and there might be more trips to see the doctor when the baby is first born. Once the doctor knows the baby will be fine and if there are no complications, the trips will not be so much but the doctor will still be observing the baby.
