There are more myths about diabetes that make it difficult to know whether or not they are true facts about this disease.
- People that have diabetes cannot eat foods with carbohydrates: this is not true, while it is important to eat the correct foods, eating properly does include carbohydrates.
- People with diabetes should avoid social settings such as parties: This is not true, social settings are relaxing to the body, and that means a decrease in blood sugars.
- There are professions that people with diabetes cannot work in: this is also not true, having diabetes does not affect the average profession. There have been times in the past when some jobs were restricted such as airplane pilots, and truck drivers, however with new technology in medicine some restrictions for these professions have been lifted.
- When insulin is increased it means the disease of diabetes is getting worse: this is not true, each person that is affected with long term diabetes and the complications associated with it will need different amounts of food, activity and insulin.
