With today’s style of living, hypertension has become a part of our daily routine and a factor of worry. Great expectations, unreal targets, competition going beyond limits to excel and balancing personal and professional life are some of the things that every individual today, is trying to manage at his or her level best. However, in day-to-day life, we do not realize that these pressures are actually leading to hypertension, which in turn, leads to high blood pressure.
High pressure of blood in the blood vessels or arteries is known as high blood pressure or hypertension. Excess of emotional tension does not necessarily result in high blood pressure but it can lead to hypertension. If the blood pressure goes higher than the normal pressure of 120/80, then it is considered as high blood pressure.
Whenever there is an increase in systolic or diastolic blood pressure or sometimes both, the risk of getting a stroke, contracting heart diseases and other kidney diseases, increase dramatically. It is very important to keep the blood pressure in check.
Earlier studies showed that an increase in the diastolic blood pressure was a bigger concern for worry as compared to systolic elevations, but further studies have concluded that hypertension actually comes with a greater risk, especially in people who have crossed their 50s. According to the American Heart Association, in every three adults, one is a victim of high blood pressure which amounts to around 2 million Americans.
