What is Feline Diabetes? |
Feline diabetes is also known as feline diabetes mellitus. It is an endocrine gland disease that affects the pancreas and the ability for it to release enough insulin to regulate the uptake of glucose into the cells. It can also affect the cells responsiveness to the insulin present in the blood as well. This means that the cells will not be receptive to the sugar circulating in the blood. When this happens there will be higher than normal blood sugar levels which can damage organs in the feline body like the liver, kidneys, heart, etc. |
