What is a Diabetic Diet Sheet?

A diabetic diet sheet is a list of foods and beverages that the diabetic person can eat without causing any harmful fluctuations in their blood sugar level. The list usually has typical ‘health foods’, things anyone who wants to stay healthy would eat. May sound hard to believe, but there are no drastic differences between the diet sheet of a diabetic person and the diet of a normal heath conscious person.

Most diet sheets are specific to the person using them. Patients consult doctors and dietitians when making their diet sheet, who in turn advise them on the amounts of each type of food they can safely consume.  Usually diet sheets have more fruits and vegetables and fewer sugary foods, to cut down on calories. They also contain less salty foods, such as crisps and fries, because salt leads to high blood pressure. They also contain smaller amounts of fats, because fats and oils have cholesterol which can cause heart disease. That’s not to say that chocolates and fast food is eliminated altogether – just that the portions are smaller and less frequent.

Patients can use the diet sheet to plan meals, using different combinations of foods at any given time. It allows them to stay healthy, helps them lead a normal life and gives them a measure of choice in their eating habits.
