Why Can Diabetes Cause Blindness? |
It's a scary fact that around 40% become blind or struggle with eye sight after they are diagnosed having Diabetes. Why does blindness happen with Diabetes? Nerve damage is caused at the eye retina and when this type happens it can create blindness. A lot of times this can happen because of problems with the supply of blood. Diabetes can cause blood problems either low or high blood sugar and that can create and interfere with the way the blood flows. In your macula fluid is leaked into it and that is why your vision is not precise. When your blood gets cut off from flowing the right way it is blocked causing blood vessels to not grow the way they should. Doctors can sometimes notice and see this happening with tests and when they have picked up on retinopathy (blindness), they will be able to treat it in such a way that they might prevent you from becoming blind. |
