What Breakfast Food Can I Eat When Diabetic?

However surprising it may seem but it is true that the breakfast for a diabetic person is not different from what others are having. This is because breakfast being the first meal of the day must be nutritive and should be high in proteins and low in carbohydrates and sugars. Therefore the breakfast foods that are good, if you are a diabetic need to be low glycemic which means they should not contain so much sugar so as to raise the blood sugar levels alarmingly. The foods should keep the levels steady throughout the day.

Proteins are considered a good option for breakfast if you are a diabetic. However, these alone cannot provide the entire nutrition required by the body. Therefore they must be accompanied by certain grains which have the capability to not only lower but regulate the blood sugar levels throughout the day. Such rough grains, as they are called, are whole grain rye, whole grain barley and other grains like oat. The breakfast of a diabetic need not be bland but can be made tastier by adding spices or additives. Also it should not be fried but boiled or preferably baked.

Needless to say that diabetics need to take extra care with their diet and so must limit their consumption of sweets, fats, high calorie foods as these have damaging impact on the blood sugar levels. Wrong choice of foods and more than moderate amounts can be harmful for a diabetic person.
