Biotin is a B vitamin and is known to work in helping the body with insulin and increasing glucokinase, and biotin is needed to process glucose. The concentration of glucokinase is found in the liver and in diabetic patients the concentration is usually very low.
For diabetics biotin can in some cases help the diabetic with pain from nerve damage and can enhance glucokinase when taken in supplement form. It has also been proven to help the diabetic blood sugar levels fall.
Some of the things that can cause a deficiency in biotin are long term use of antibiotics and also some long term medications. Low levels of biotin can cause issues such as dermatitis, depression, hair loss, anemia and nausea. The use of biotin supplements can also help in stronger hair, finger nails and is often recommended for women that are pregnant; especially pregnant that also has diabetes. |
