How can the mother avoid complications?

There can be many complications when you have diabetes and pregnant but there are some ways that you can avoid those complications and it can become manageable and sometimes the doctor might even be able to make it preventable if you control your blood sugar and use careful planning plus prevention.

There are two main things that you can do to help avoid complications.

- Get your blood sugar checked often and at least three to six months before you have the baby. This helps to reduce possible birth defects that could occur with Diabetes.

- Gestational diabetes might happen later while pregnant but the great news is that this also does not cause birth defects.

- stay in touch with your doctor at all times

- reduce stress and learn ways to relieve anxiety while you are pregnant

Having communication with your doctor is important during this time. If you do not communicate with your doctor your child might have more birth defects as a result of it. Even if you have any questions, you should contact him/her and your doctor will be happy to answer them.
